Politics, ain't it a Bi...

Always wanted someplace to list the ideas I thought would make a positive impact on the politics of the day and here's my chance. Join in if you like....

First off an elected public servant should serve 1 term and then go home. That way we share the burden of governing and not press it upon the few...

Elected officials should be well paid for their efforts and that money should be paid out of the remainder after everything else in the budget has been paid in full for the year.

Federal elected officials should live in houses provided to them by the states they represent kind of like the President lives in the White House. Since they are serving a limited time in Washington the state should provide them living accommodation's.

Federal elected officials, being well paid, should provide their own health and medical insurance according to what the market has to offer.

Federal elected officials, would be allowed to keep their retirement plan they had from their old job while on the job as a servant of the people. There would be no retirement plan for Federal Elected officials.

Monies collected as taxes would be collected locally and passed UP the line to the State and then to the Feds, each taking out their portion before passing it along. There would be no need for the Feds or State paying down the line thus eliminating the corrupting effects of the threat of withholding funds by the Feds or the State.

more to come....

* The "line item veto" is being mentioned once again as a cure-all for excessive spending by the Feds. This is the act by which a President can remove an item from the budget at his sole discretion.

Well that sounds like a wonderful idea, a wonderful guy, our President, unmoved by the politics of the day or by his own personal philosophies, will decide on a line by line basis who gets what in the way of funding in this country.

You need to give this some thought before backing such an idea.

If we could find the right President then it'd be a wonderful thing but how often do you think that would happen? Better the Congress just does it's job maybe with a little help from the public.

* We just had a local election here. At our polling place the wife and I were probably the last 2 to vote, we were numbers 33 and 34. We live in a rural subdivision and there are more than 34 registered voters just in our sub. So does anyone think that the "will of the people" has been heard from such an election? Folks, you get the government you vote for, you gotta get out and vote. It's embarrassing that the country that invented this much freedom now is so indifferent to exercising it. It'll be our downfall.

* Education is always an issue being talked about with the Feds stating that if we just do this or that it will get us back on the right track. I think the Feds do have a role to play in Education but it should be an oversight role where they set some rules that everyone has to abide by and then they need to get out of the way and let our local Boards of Education implement them. One of the issues we have here in the rural areas is consolidation of school systems. This is a poor way of addressing the education issue. Seems to me we need to keep our schools small with small class room sizes so that kids get the individual attention they need.

Immigration

Immigration

Anybody against Immigration? You know, the process by which foreign folks ask to come to this country to make a better life for themselves. I don't know of anyone that is against this.

Now breaking and entering is a different matter. These are the folks that come to this country without our consent, who hide in the shadows, exploit our good nature and try to Steal the American Dream for themselves.

I don't know about you, but I'd not tolerate someone coming into my home uninvited, why should I accept those that come to my country uninvited?

It's said that they help the economy. I give it to them that they do jobs that others won't. However, I thought we Americans believed in supply and demand. If an employer can't get a job done for a certain price then isn't that price suppose to rise till someone is willing to do it? That's how it's suppose to work but not if you have a work force that is willing to work for cash, at lower wages, can't take the benefits because they are here illegally. If we really believe this is good for this country then let's just open the borders, let everyone in and see how our standard of living is doing in a few short years.

American workers get paid well because they are generally well fed, educated, healthy and able. And they speak English without cue cards.

I do admit that business, in particular the US Chamber of Commerce, has really pushed the idea that this country needs all these folks no matter how they come here. They are of course representing their members, not the citizenry of the USA.

To address this problem as I see it we first need to remove any benefits that anyone might obtain by coming here illegally.

Anyone found in this country illegally will never become a citizen of the US.
Women may come to the US for medical treatment but unless they are in the US in a permanent fashion then their children born here will not receive US citizenship.
A "permanent fashion" is defined as someone here legally that is to be here for a year or better.
The legal status of any person in the US may be questioned by any law enforcement agent and detained if needed.
Any gains made, assets proccurred while here illegally are forfeit if convicted.

Now I feel that if anything along these lines were adopted it would cut back on those coming. For those already here, I say make the announcement of what's about to take place and give them 6 months to take care of their affairs and return to their real homes.

So what about the businesses that hire these folks. There should be fines, loss of contracts but most importantly, the one doing the hiring should be liable along with the company. Folks need to be held responsible for their actions directly.

I'm not against anyone wanting to come to this country. The American Dream is available to all that wish seek it in a legal fashion.

Take care, Elvin
